Jungle GymA raw form amongst mature trees

Set in the mature landscape garden of our Dawn Beach residence, Jungle Gym’s full-height glazing and frameless corner windows give the experience of exercising in the garden. Set out in a rigid grid plan, the rear wall of the space contains a shower, a bathroom, and a storage room and, fully mirrored, reflects the image of the garden, visually opening up the main gym space to the outside.

The minimal material palette, with robust boardmarked concrete used both internally and externally, results in a sculptural presence in the garden. The strong timber graining, amplified by jet-washing the boards of the soft material, creates a canvas where intriguing shadows dance, dissolving this simple structure into the landscape. On the flat roof of the gym, a full photovoltaic panel array keeps energy consumption to a minimum.
