This 5 bedroom home is located on a sloping, elevated plot overlooking Flamingo Lake, Turks and Caicos Islands. The design seeks to maximise its lateral views and make the most of the site’s topography to capture the widest panorama of the lake. The house climbs up the hill forming a ‘U’ shape with the pool at its centre. A Guest House is sited on the lowest portion of land at +10’ above sea level. The Main House Master Bedroom suite and secondary bedrooms are placed at right angles, with views across the pool at +15'.
The Main House Living/Dining /Kitchen is then positioned at +20’ above sea level with views afforded across the Guest House toward the lake, Juba Sound and Long Bay Hills in the far distance. The elevations facing the neighbouring boundaries of the house are treated as ‘hard’ edges with fewer windows except for those that are strategically placed for cross ventilation.
The elevations facing the inner courtyard and pool are more plentifully glazed, whilst the ‘prows’ of the Guest House and Main House are fully glazed with cantilevering balconies that capture the best views. The buildings are to be clad in a stone that is similar to the iron shore rock in which the buildings are inserted, whilst the connection between the living and sleeping wings of the Main House is envisaged as a lighter-weight timber breezeway with shutters that can be adapted to filter winds through the home.
The design makes the most of the site’s topography to capture the widest panoramas of the lake.
